Née Charlene Wittstock, the princess was born in Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) and represented South Africa in the 2000 Sydney Olympics, where her team placed fifth in the 4 x 100-meter medley relay. Brava.

In fact, it was swimming that brought Charlene and her now-husband Prince Albert II together. They met at the Mare Nostrum swim competition in Monte Carlo, Monaco, and married on July 1, 2011.
