Princess Charlene of Monaco Has Deleted Her Instagram Account

It's been a chaotic few days for watchers of the Monegasque royal family. Earlier this week, new rumors surfaced via two French and German publications that Princess Charlene of Monaco may be separated from her husband, Prince Albert, and living in Switzerland. While neither of the royal nor the Monaco royal palace have spoken out about the rumors, adding fuel to the fire is the fact that Charlene's Instagram account, @hshprincesscharlene, has apparently been deleted.

Previously a hub for private photos of the royal family, particularly Charlene and Albert's twin children, Prince Jacques and Princess Gabriella, as well as a place for her to share news causes she is personally involved with, her account has now disappeared from the social media site. The reason for the account's deactivation has not been made public. As of this writing, the official account for the The Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation is still active.

Speculation about the state of Charlene and Albert's marriage has been ongoing for some time. Albert, the only son of Prince Rainier III and Grace Kelly, has been the subject of a number of royal scandals over the years—in addition to Jacques and Gabriella, who serve as the legal heirs to the throne of Monaco, he acknowledged two illegitimate children in the early 2000s, and in 2021 a woman brought suit in Italian court claiming he is the father of a third—which some have suggested has caused strife in the marriage.

In 2021, Charlene spent six months in South Africa, reportedly due to ongoing medical issues, and later went into treatment for exhaustion in Switzerland, only furthering rumors that there was tension in the relationship. While Albert told People at the time, "she didn’t go into exile. It was absolutely just a medical problem which had to be treated," Charlene ultimately spent more than a year away from public life.

The French publication Royauté claimed in March 2023 that the couple were in the process of separating. The Monegasque royal palace responded to the reports, telling People, "The article is made up of old stories which weren't true to begin with."
