For the second year in a row, Princess Beatrice is making the holidays a blended family affair — which is a pretty significant move for the usually traditional royal family.

On Friday evening, the princess attended Kate Middleton‘s third annual Christmas carol concert alongside her husband, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, and her 7-year-old stepson, Christopher Woolf, known as “Wolfie.” Upon the trio’s arrival, Beatrice held the little boy’s hand while Eduoardo walked alongside them. All three looked jovial as they entered Westminster Abbey for the festive evening.

After the holiday event, Beatrice, Edoardo, and Wolfie all held hands on their way to their car. The blended family appearance was their second — last Christmas, Wolfie joined the royal family for their annual walk to Christmas church service at St. Mary Magdalene. In addition to Wolfie, Beatrice and Edoardo also share a 2-year-old daughter named Sienna.

In recent years, the royal family has been increasingly criticized for their dated rules and ideas, and since King Charles‘ ascension to the throne, senior members of the monarchy have made it clear they’re embracing modernity. Beatrice’s highly publicized outing seems to be another instance of the royal family trying to show the world that they can be relatable — after all, what’s more relatable these days than being a part of a blended family?

We welcome the unexpected yet refreshing occurrence, and we hope to see the royal family leave behind a few more rigid takes that have gotten them metaphorical coal from the public in previous years.
