During her royal visit to Uganda, Princess Anne kept her outfits very casual. Yet, for a dinner with Uganda's president, Yoweri K. Museveni, the Princess Royal turned to the royal jewel collection: She wore a sapphire brooch that belonged to her mother, Queen Elizabeth.

According to Lauren Kiehna of The Court Jewller, the brooch has a long royal history. It was first made for Empress Marie Feodorovna, the sister-in-law of King Edward VII. Following her death in 1928, her daughters decided to auction off her jewelry collection—including the sapphire brooch. In 1930, Queen Mary purchased the brooch for £2,375. After Queen Mary's death in 1953, Queen Elizabeth inherited all her royal jewelry.

The sapphire, diamond, and pearl brooch became a staple of Queen Elizabeth's wardrobe—and now it seems as if the brooch has passed to her only daughter, Princess Anne. While the Palace has not confirmed if it is indeed Empress Marie Feodorovna's sapphire brooch that Anne is wearing, by all indications, it seems to be.

Anne chose to pear the brooch with a three-strand pearl necklace and diamond and sapphire earrings. You can see her full outfit here:

Since the royal mourning period ended for Queen Elizabeth, Princess Anne has been busy. She visited New York City earlier this month, taking a trip on the Staten Island Ferry, and spent last week in Uganda, supporting many of her patronages.

The Princess Royal has also hosted numerous investitures, including awarding Daniel Craig with the Companion of the Order of St Michael and St George (CMG)—an honor shared with his fictional character, James Bond.
