Princess Anne Curtsies to Queen Elizabeth's Coffin in Emotional Moment

Yesterday, Queen Elizabeth's coffin began its journey from Balmoral to its final resting place at St George's Chapel in Windsor. The first stop for the coffin was Queen Elizabeth's official Scottish residence, the Palace of Holyroodhouse, where three of her children—Princess Anne, Prince Edward, and Prince Andrew—were waiting.

As pallbearers carried Queen Elizabeth's coffin into the Palace of Holyroodhouse, Princess Anne dropped into a deep curtsy—a sign of respect for her late mother. (Watch the moment in the video, above.)

Princess Anne and her husband Sir Timothy Laurence had accompanied Queen Elizabeth's coffin on the drive from Balmoral to the Palace of Holyroodhouse.

The last public appearance Queen Elizabeth ever made was with Princess Anne in July 2022, when the two royals opened the new Thames Hospice building in Maidenhead, Berkshire. Anne was right by her mother's side during the entire event.

Princess Anne and her brother, now King Charles III, were reportedly by their mother's side at Balmoral when she passed away. The two had already been in Scotland to attend the Braemar Highland Gathering—famous Highland Games—that take place on the first Saturday in September. The Queen was patron of the event, and the royal family typically takes a break from their summer vacation at Balmoral to attend.

Expect to see a lot of Princess Anne in the upcoming days; ahead of Queen Elizabeth's funeral on Monday, September 19, the royal family will attend numerous ceremonial events. Tomorrow, the Queen's coffin will travel to London via RAF aircraft, accompanied by Princess Anne.
