Princess Alexandra of Hanover decided to celebrate the Chanel Spring/Summer 2024 couture show by dusting off an archival look from the host brand.

For the Paris Fashion Week event on Tuesday, the royal arrived in a black minidress that actually made its debut on the Chanel fall/winter couture runway back in 1990, and which was previously worn by her mother, Princess Caroline of Monaco.

The little black dress—a staple of the house—features a contrasting white collar and two rows of buttons dotting the front of the design (which are actually painted with a white silhouette of Coco Chanel’s face). There are other pops of white on the mini, thanks to the thick scalloped stitching along the hems of the sleeves and on the two front pockets that jut out.

Sticking true to its original styling, Alexandra added black tights underneath the dress; however, she then made the look her own by adding a pair of inky heeled mules and a black quilted handbag that featured a gold chain and gold hardware with the Chanel logo on the front. She also accessorized with a chain choker and tiny box-shaped earrings, both in gold.

The outfit choice was not only interesting for its runway roots, but also because Princess Alexandra’s mom, Princess Caroline, has been photographed in the same minidress at least twice before. The first time, in 1990 (the year Chanel debuted it), Caroline wore it to the International Bouquet Competition, where she styled the piece with a black-and-white hat and a singular glove. And three years later, she pulled out the dress again for a stylish stroll around town.
