  • Prince William reportedly tested positive for COVID-19 in April.

  • William wanted to keep the diagnosis private so he didn’t “worry anyone.”

Prince William tested positive for COVID-19 earlier this year, according to sources who spoke to both BBC and The Sun. It appears as though the prince tested positive in April, around the same time as his father, Prince Charles, but William kept the diagnosis private in order not to worry people.

Per The Sun, William told an insider, “There were important things going on and I didn’t want to worry anyone.” He was treated by palace doctors and isolated at his family home in Norfolk, where he carried out remote royal engagements.

“William was hit pretty hard by the virus—it really knocked him for six,” a source said. “At one stage, he was struggling to breathe, so obviously, everyone around him was pretty panicked. After seeing medics and testing positive—which was obviously quite a shock given how fit and healthy he is—William was determined it should be business as usual though. He was determined to fulfill his engagements.”

The Sun’s source also went into further detail about why William kept his diagnosis a secret: “The Queen delivered her ‘We Will Meet Again’ address, and he just didn’t want to worry people. He felt there were more important things going on in the country. But as a result of his own experiences, he realizes absolutely anyone can catch this awful disease—and knows how imperative it is that we all take this second lockdown seriously.”
