The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's daughter, Princess Charlotte, turned six over the weekend and Prince William has now revealed how the family celebrated her big day – and it sounds as though the young royal had a marvellous time.

Speaking during an official visit to Babcock Vehicle Engineering firm in Walsall, West Midlands, Prince William said that the family had spent their bank holiday weekend in their country home, Amner Hall, in Norfolk.

When asked about Charlotte's birthday, the Duke said, "She had a lovely day, thank you!" before adding, "Last year it was her birthday in lockdown but this year we were able to have one other family over." However, he didn't reveal who the other family were though.

He added that like many parents, he couldn't believe how fast his children were growing up. "They grow up very fast," he remarked. "It was great fun."

Whilst Charlotte's celebrations remained private, the Cambridges did keep up tradition and publicly share a new portrait of their child to mark her turning another year older. This year, the image was released via the official Royal Family Instagram account, as opposed to the Kensington Royal one, dedicated to all things William, Kate and co. - this decision was made as the Cambridges were on a football-related social media boycott.

Many royal enthusiasts pointed out that Charlotte certainly bares a resemblance to not only her father, but to her great-grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, too. Commenting underneath the social media post, one wrote, "Looks so much like the queen, her great grandma! ❤️"

Another echoed with, "Am I the only thinking she looks just like Elizabeth?" while a further added, "Carbon copy of her papa❤️"

Also during his visit to Babcock Vehicle Engineering, Prince William learnt more about how the company kept various emergency services and other organisations running throughout the course of the COVID-19 pandemic.

While there and chatting to staff, he was also asked to share his thoughts on his private police bodyguards' cars. To this, the Duke of Cambridge joked that some of his team's driving skills may need a little more work, "The guys really rate them... some of their driving skills need to be questioned. Don't tell them I said that!"

We're so happy that Charlotte could spend her birthday with friends this year.
