Prince William Reportedly Had Coronavirus Back in April

Prince William reportedly battled the coronavirus in April—and the public knew nothing about it.

The news was first reported by U.K.’s The Sun, though other outlets, including BBC and CNN, have also covered it. The Sun says Prince William kept the information private because he didn’t want to “alarm the nation.” The paper also reports the Duke of Cambridge told an “observer” at a recent engagement, “There were important things going on and I didn’t want to worry anyone.”

Kensington Palace has not commented on the report yet.

“William was hit pretty hard by the virus—it really knocked him for six,” a source told the Sun. “At one stage he was struggling to breathe, so obviously everyone around him was pretty panicked. After seeing medics and testing positive—which was obviously quite a shock given how fit and healthy he is—William was determined it should be business as usual though. He was determined to fulfill his engagements.” Prince William was reportedly treated by palace doctors and isolated at his and Kate Middleton’s country home in Norfolk, Anmer Hall.

If the timing and diagnosis are indeed correct, that means Prince William was sick right around the same time as his father, Prince Charles, and Britain’s prime minister, Boris Johnson. Prince Charles went into isolation for two weeks in March and Johnson was hospitalized briefly in April.

“The Queen delivered her ‘We Will Meet Again’ address, and he just didn’t want to worry people,” a source continued. “He felt there were more important things going on in the country.B ut as a result of his own experiences, he realizes absolutely anyone can catch this awful disease—and knows how imperative it is that we all take this second lockdown seriously.”

Middleton and the three Cambridge children—Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis—were reportedly not infected.

We’re glad everyone is feeling better now, but Prince William’s reported diagnosis is a good reminder that being young and heathy does not make you immune to coronavirus—so take all the appropriate precautions.
