So often it is female royal fashion that steals the show at major events. But today, Prince William made a statement with his outfit for this third Earthshot Prize awards as he walked the green carpet in the same blazer he wore to the event two years ago.

The Prince of Wales attended the Earthshot Prize awards in Singapore today and chose a dark green Alexander McQueen velvet blazer that he wore to the inaugural awards in London in 2021. The outfit, which Kensington Palace said has been in his wardrobe for 10 years, was a reminder of the role that sustainability in fashion can play in helping protect the planet.

This year’s event took place at the Theatre at Mediacorp and coincided with a four-day visit to Singapore by the Prince.

“I’m really proud of the whole team, to be honest,” the Prince said in a TV interview posted on social media by ITV’s Lizzie Robinson today. “I mean, you know, Earthshot coming from a seed of an idea to where were are three years later. The whole point is to provide impact and to make change. But the guys and girls [Earthshot finalists] you have met are fantastic, they’re the ones at the forefront, and over the next 10 years we’ve got to give them the support and all the help we can so that their impacts are magnified greater than what they’re already doing.”

The Prince greeted Earthshot hosts Hannah Waddingham and Sterling K. Brown on the green carpet today as well as posing with guest Cate Blanchett, who is on the Earthshot Prize council which helps to decide the winners. Five winners were announced today and each will receive £1 million to scale up their innovation. Over a decade, the prize will find and fund 50 solutions to help combat climate change.

“I choose to believe that future generations will look back on this decade as the point at which we globally took collective action for our planet,” Prince William said in a speech at the awards today. “The moment we refused to accept the voices of denial and defeatism, and instead, became the architects of change towards a healthy and sustainable world. We owe it to the generations that will follow us to work together both for their future, and for the future of our planet.”

Celebrities announcing the winners included actor Lana Condor who told T&C this week that she was “grateful and honoured” to be involved with the awards. “I am so lucky to be dressed by Stella McCartney, a British fashion designer known for her sustainable and cruelty free approach to fashion,” Condor shared about her plans for her outfit. “Fashion can play a crucial role in encouraging sustainability…Sustainable fashion practices, such as using eco-friendly materials and ethical manufacturing, can help reduce the industry’s environmental footprint as well as serve up some looks.”

When William arrived in Singapore on Sunday he visited the world’s largest indoor waterfall at Changi Airport. Other events on the itinerary included joining a training session with a British dragon boat racing team.
