Prince William Has Received His First Dose of the COVID-19 Vaccine

Prince William just received the coronavirus vaccine, effectively doing his part to protect others.

The Duke of Cambridge shared that he had received the first dose on his and his wife Duchess Kate's official social media pages. The duke shared a photo from the appointment, showing himself masked up and holding up the sleeve of his blue sweater for the injection. William also wrote a message of gratitude dedicated to health care workers and the scientists who have helped ensure a safe vaccine rollout across the United Kingdom.

"On Tuesday I received my first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine," William wrote alongside the post. "To all those working on the vaccine rollout - thank you for everything you’ve done and continue to do."

William isn't the only royal family member who has been vaccinated against COVID-19. His grandmother Queen Elizabeth II received her first vaccine dose back in January and became fully vaccinated soon after. The queen's late husband, Prince Philip, was also vaccinated before his passing in April at the age of 99.

The Duke of Cambridge's vaccination follows his contracting the virus at the height of the pandemic last year. William didn't reveal that he was battling the novel virus until six months later, reportedly because he did not want to worry the public following his father, Prince Charles, also having contracted the virus. William and Kate both pivoted their individual work to focus on supporting health care workers and caretakers amid the pandemic.
