Prince William and Prince Charles have been reaching out to Meghan Markle and Prince Harry with “love and affection on standby.”
Meghan and Harry are currently in Canada, but the royals have a contingency plan in place in case they decide to return to the UK.
As you’re likely aware unless you’ve been walking through 2020 in a haze (I feel you), Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have stepped down from royal duties and are currently living in Canada. But that doesn’t mean they aren't still in touch with the royals. According to sources who spoke to the Sunday Times (via The Express), Prince Charles and Prince William have been “reaching out” to the couple with “love and affection on standby” and want Meghan and Harry to know they are more than welcome to return to the United Kingdom—even if they don’t resume royal duties.
Amid concern over the spotlight on the royal couple (Meghan and Archie were recently photographed by paps), senior royals are said to be making contingency plans for the Sussexes if they need to return home to England.
“The palace is very worried about the Sussexes, because they are vulnerable outside the embrace of the family,” a source says. “They are making contingency plans in case the Sussexes suddenly turn round and say: ‘Can we come back under your wing?’ This is a looking ahead thing. There’s no timeline here. But everybody agrees that this is a fragile couple. Nobody is going to say, no they can’t come back.”
Harry and Meghan still have their home at Frogmore Cottage (they’re paying back the taxpayer money used to renovate it), and a source says, “You could bring them back to Frogmore to look after them. They wouldn’t return to royal duties, but they could have a period of rehabilitation and recuperation.”
For now, Meghan and Harry appear to be settled in Canada, but the queen did reveal in her statement that they’d “spend time in Canada and the UK,” so expect to see them in England again at some point.
