Prince William Meets With Team England Before World Cup

Last night, Prince William was a surprise guest at Team England's pre-World Cup ceremony to hand out jerseys. "I'm really here to just kind of point out that the rest of the country's behind you," the Prince of Wales said. "We're all rooting for you. Enjoy it."

He added some words of advice: "Play for each other, support each other, enjoy it and I'm sure you'll go far."

His official Instagram account shared video and photo from the evening, writing, "A special evening at the National Football Centre presenting this exciting squad with their shirt numbers for the World Cup!"

William is President of the Football Association, and he is not planning on attending the Men's World Cup in Qatar. However, the Prince of Wales would possibly still go if England make it to the end of the tournament.

Team manager Gareth Southgate said, "It was a nice moment to be with the group and Prince William, who has been a huge supporter of ours. I know how passionate the players are about their country and it was great to see what it meant to each of them as they came forward. As staff and players, we are all so privileged to represent England and we are excited to see what’s possible together. We want to make the fans proud again."

Team England's first match is against Iran on Monday, and they are in a group along with the U.S. and Wales. As Prince of Wales and President of the English Football Association, Prince William may be divided on who to root for.
