Prince William and Kate Middleton Left Handwritten Notes for Queen Elizabeth II's Committal Ceremony

Prince William and Kate Middleton wrote handwritten notes that were left on Queen Elizabeth II's casket for her private committal ceremony.

Like King Charles III, the newly-crowned Prince of Wales and Duchess Kate's cards were among several visible among the bouquets that decorated the late monarch's lead-lined coffin on Monday.

Several others included with floral arrangements lined St. George's Chapel.

The contents of William and Kate's notes aren't publicly known.

King Charles' note was brief, reading simply, "In loving and devoted memory, Charles R."

The "R" stands for "Rex," which is Latin for "King." That in itself was somewhat of a tribute to the Queen, who would often sign her own correspondence as "Elizabeth R," which stands for "Regina" or "Queen" in Latin.

Queen Elizabeth II left a handwritten note on her husband Prince Philip's casket at his funeral in April 2021.

She signed the card "Lilibet," a childhood nickname that the Duke of Edinburgh used for her throughout their 73 years together.

The Queen died on Sept. 8, 2022, at age 96.
