Prince William and Kate Middleton Have Arrived at Queen Elizabeth's Funeral

In what is sure to be one of the most-watched royal moments of a generation, Queen Elizabeth's state funeral is being held at Westminster Abbey this morning, and the royal family has turned out en mass to pay homage to the long-reigning monarch.

Among them, naturally, are Prince William and Kate Middleton, who arrived at the service looking somber and stately. William arrived with the procession following the Queen's coffin, while Kate came by car accompanied by her children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, as well as Camilla, Queen Consort.

"My grandmother famously said that grief was the price we pay for love," William wrote in a tribute to the Queen after the news of her death was announced last week. "All of the sadness we will feel in the coming weeks will be testament to the love we felt for our extraordinary Queen. I will honour her memory by supporting my father, The King, in every way I can."

In addition to mourning his beloved grandmother the Queen, William, the new Prince of Wales, also represents the continuity of the royal family at the event today, with his new position as first in line to the throne.

Over the period of mourning, William and Kate have made several appearances to share in the public's grief over the loss of the monarch. In the days after the Queen's death, they joined Prince Harry, and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex in a surprise reunion to greet well-wishers outside the gates of Windsor Castle. Last week, following a procession and service for the Queen's lying in state, the couple traveled to Sandringham, a longtime royal family retreat, to view floral tributes left by members of the public in memory of Queen Elizabeth.

Later today, after the end of the official funeral, it's expected that they will join other members of the royal family for a private burial service in which the Queen will be laid to rest with her husband, Prince Philip, alongside her parents and sister in Windsor Castle's King George VI Memorial Chapel in the Royal Vault.
