Prince William Hosts Princess Diana Award Reception at Kensington Palace

  • Prince William hosted a reception for 20 young people this week, all of whom were being recognized with Diana Awards.

  • William told recipients of the awards that his late mother "would be proud" of them.

Prince William is continuing the work of Princess Diana.

As reported by People, the Duke of Cambridge attended an event at Buckingham Palace this week in his late mother's name to hand out Diana Awards, which recognize the achievements of young people around the globe who have made impressive contributions to society.

The chief executive of the Diana Award charity, Tessy Ojo, told People, "We celebrated 20 wonderful young people from across the world—young people we believe truly embody the qualities of Princess Diana. They are just incredible and changing the world and defying the odds to tackle some major issues."

The Duke of Cambridge hosted the inspirational #2019LegacyAwards recipients from the Diana Awards, for tea at Kensington Palace. The Diana Award is a continuation of Princess Diana’s legacy and her belief that young people have the power to change the world for the better. Taking place every two years, the Legacy Awards celebrate the achievements of 20 outstanding young leaders, visionaries and role models from across the world, aged 12-25, who have demonstrated their ability to inspire and mobilise new generations to serve their communities. The Award recipients will have access to a two-year development programme which will look to enhance leadership, community development, social entrepreneurship and technology. Earlier in 2019 The Duke of Sussex attended the UK’s first National Youth Mentoring Summit, hosted by the Diana Award — the summit brought together the UK mentoring community, business leaders, politicians and young people at the UK’s first National Youth Mentoring Summit in London.
