Prince William (40) may be first in the line of succession to the throne, but above all else, he is a dad.

Today, the royal family took part in Trooping the Colour, which is an annual celebration marking the birthday of the British monarch (AKA King Charles III). As a part of the festivities, the family gathered on the Buckingham Palace balcony to watch the  Royal Air Force flypast, and during this assembly, the Prince of Wales had a sweet moment with his 8-year-old daughter, Princess Charlotte.

At one point (as seen above), the Prince of Wales rested his hands on his daughter's shoulders, and Princess Charlotte proceeded to hold her father's hands as well.

In other photos from the same moment, it appears that Prince William removed his hands from Charlotte's shoulders to gesture about something, but his middle child continued to hold onto his fingers. Later, he was also seen resting his hand on her head.

Prince William attended the ceremony with his wife, Kate Middleton (41), and the two were joined not only by their daughter, but also by their two sons, Prince George (9) and Prince Louis (5).

But Prince William wasn't the only one showing off his parental affection. In another moment from the Buckingham Palace balcony, Princess Catherine was seen subtly brushing Prince Louis's hair out of his eyes.

In case you're unaware, Trooping the Colour holds a special significance for the British royal family, because it acts as the second birthday celebration for the current reigning monarch. So, while King Charles was actually born on November 14, the monarch enjoys a birthday party in June as well.

We love seeing your fatherly side, Prince William.
