Prince William is reportedly in “protection mode” now that Kate Middleton has made her cancer diagnosis public.

“Undoubtedly what has happened to him in his life [with his mother, Princess Diana] has led him into the protection mode he is in now,” a friend reportedly close to William recently told The Times. Meanwhile, a Kensington Palace aide dished the following to the outlet: “All he wants to do is protect his wife and children. The family just want to go away for Easter, spend time together, the five of them, close off from the world and move on.”

Yet another friend close to the sitch added that Prince William wishes Kate had been able to keep her diagnosis private but fully supported her choice to go public amid mounting speculation.

“She did it with his full support and advice; he joined all the conversations around it,” they noted before adding, “On every level, he wishes she didn’t have to do it. But it was her decision, it wasn’t begrudged, and he fully supported it.”

Clearly, sources want to show their support for Kate amid her diagnosis, because an additional royal insider stated that William didn’t appear in the announcement video beside his wife because “this was her as a strong woman sharing an innately strong message to the nation. She didn’t need anyone sitting next to her. He has been supporting her and the family in the background.”

Btw, an individual who recently spoke with The Telegraph shed light on the couple’s current stance amid the news: “William is extremely proud of his wife for the courage and strength she has shown not just this week but since her surgery in January. He has always done all he can to protect his family and now more than ever he’s focused on ensuring his wife has the privacy she needs to fully recover and that his children are shielded from the understandable interest in the news that has been shared.”

Wishing Kate and Wills all the best during this difficult time.
