Prince William and Duchess Kate Middleton Reveal the Royal Baby’s Name
Prince William and Duchess Kate Middleton welcomed their third child into the world on April 23, and while they gave us our first glimpse at the tiny prince just hours after he was born, we had to stand by a little longer to find out his name. But now we know, and it was worth the wait.
The newest British royal is named Louis Arthur Charles.
Kensington Palace tweeted the announcement, saying, “The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are delighted to announce that they have named their son Louis Arthur Charles. The baby will be known as His Royal Highness Prince Louis of Cambridge.”
Little Louis Arthur Charles joins his two older siblings with equally prestigious names, four-year-old George Alexander Louis and two-year-old Charlotte Elizabeth Diana, who was named in honor of her paternal great-grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, and late paternal grandmother, Princess Diana.
On top of the classic name, the new baby has been given a title similar to those bestowed upon his big brother and sister. George’s full title is His Royal Highness Prince George of Cambridge, while Charlotte’s title is Her Royal Highness Princess Charlotte of Cambridge. Those are shorter versions of titles the children *could* have. For instance, the new baby could have been given the title of His Royal Highness Prince Louis of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
In any case, we’re pretty sure most fans of the royals will just be calling the little one Prince Louis.
