Prince William Breaks His Silence On Harry And Meghan's Interview: "We're Very Much Not A Racist Family"

From Delish

Prince William has broken his silence on Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's explosive interview with Oprah, in which the couple spoke candidly about their experience in the royal family. During the tell-all, a number of claims were made—including that an undisclosed member of the royal family had racist "concerns and conversations" about baby Archie's skin color.

During a public engagement on Thursday, March 11, William was asked "have you spoken to your brother since the interview?" and responded, "No, I haven't spoken to him yet but I will do." He was then asked, "Can you just let me know, is the royal family a racist family sir?" To which William responded, "We're very much not a racist family."

During her talk with Oprah, Meghan said, “In those months, when I was pregnant, all around this same time, we had in tandem the conversation of ‘he won’t be given security; he won’t be given a title’…and also concerns and conversations about how dark his skin will be when he’s born...That was relayed to me from Harry, that was from conversations that family had with him. It was really hard to see those as compartmentalized conversations.”

Harry declined to tell Oprah who made this awful comment to him, but the host told CBS This Morning that Harry told her “it was not his grandmother nor his grandfather,” again confirming that “neither his grandmother nor grandfather were part of those conversations.”

Buckingham Palace has since issued the following statement:

“The whole family is saddened to learn the full extent of how challenging the last few years have been for Harry and Meghan. The issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning. While some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately. Harry, Meghan, and Archie will always be much loved family members.”
