Prince William Attends the 2024 BAFTA Awards Without Princess Kate

The 77th EE British Academy Film Awards have been literally graced by red carpet royalty, as Prince William is in the house to honor the best national and foreign films of 2023.
As much as we were hoping for another one of Princess Kate’s glorious white gowns— and maybe even some cheeky PDA between the royal couple, like at last year’s event—William unfortunately made the trip solo, as the princess is recovering from a planned abdominal surgery. She is unlikely to return to her royal engagements until after March, but is on the mend. A royal source has told Bazaar, “The princess is in good spirits.”
William, who has served as the president of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts since 2010, made his grand entrance at the Royal Festival Hall in London, England, looking suave in a velvet navy blue jacket with dramatic peak lapels and a crisp white pocket square, along with a matching button-down shirt, black bowtie, dark dress pants, and shiny dress shoes.
The Prince of Wales will watch the awards ceremony, which is hosted by David Tennant, before meeting category winners and EE Rising Star Award nominees: Phoebe Dynevor, Ayo Edebiri, Jacob Elordi, Mia McKenna-Bruce, and Sophie Wilde.
At last year’s event, William and Kate made a striking return to the ceremony following a three-year hiatus. For the occasion, Kate cut a stylish and slightly edgy figure in a creamy-white one-shouldered goddess-style gown by Alexander McQueen, which she accented with a trailing sash decoration over her left shoulder, gold pointed-toe heels, black velvet opera gloves, a rectangular black clutch, and ornate dangling earrings composed of several rose-gold petals. As for William, he looked dapper in velvet again, wearing a black suit jacket in the material, along with a white button-down shirt, black bow tie, matching pleated-front dress pants, and shiny dress shoes.
While walking the carpet, the couple shared a sweet blink-and-you-missed-it moment, where Kate playfully and respectfully patted her husband’s behind. Here’s to hoping the couple makes another iconic appearance next year.
