Prince Philip Hospitalized for Scheduled Hip Surgery After Missing Easter Service

Prince Philip is getting medical attention after experiencing some trouble with his hip.

Buckingham Palace released a statement today announcing that the prince has been admitted to the hospital for hip surgery.

It reads, “His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh was admitted to King Edward VII Hospital in London this afternoon, for planned surgery on his hip which will take place tomorrow.”

The announcement comes just one week after he pulled out of the traditional Maundy service, an annual event held on the Thursday before Good Friday, at St. George’s Chapel. The prince also missed Easter services at Windsor Castle on Sunday due to the injury.

Last summer, the Duke of Edinburgh retired from his royal duties, but he still makes public appearances with the family. (Because why not?)

Sending Prince Philip and the entire royal family our well wishes!
