Prince Harry will make a surprise appearance at today's London Marathon. The Duke of Sussex, whose first baby with wife Meghan Markle is due any day now, had apparently always planned to attend the event, but his presence had not been announced earlier in case the imminent birth kept him away.

"He is pleased he is able to attend," said a spokesperson for the Prince.

Royal watchers around the world are holding their breath for the announcement that the Duchess of Sussex has gone into labor, and today's news means they can exhale-for today at least. It's still unclear where, exactly, the Duchess plans to deliver, the consensus is that there will be a public announcement when she has gone into labor, and another at some point following the baby's birth.

Prince Harry made another surprise appearance earlier this week, on Thursday, at the Anzac Day services at Westminster Abbey. That event honors those citizens of Australia and New Zealand who have died in military conflict or peacekeeping operations. Harry entered the Abbey memorial smiling alongside his sister-in-law, the Duchess of Cambridge. (Prince William did not attend the services because he was in New Zealand to pay tribute to the victims of the Christchurch mosque shootings there.)

The Duke has been patron of the London Marathon Charitable Trust since 2012, and in that capacity he will meet volunteers, watch some of the runners, and present medals to the London Marathon and Wheelchair winners, including the World Para Athletics World Championship Marathon.

The London Marathon is a massive fundraising effort. Last year, the event raised £63.7 million for various philanthropic efforts, setting a world record for an annual single day charity fundraising event for a twelfth successive year.
