Toward the end of Prince Harry's interview with Anderson Cooper on 60 Minutes, the subject of his relationship with his family comes up. In Spare, Harry's memoir, he calls what happened with his family "a full-scale rupture."

"Do you speak to William now? Do you text?" Cooper asks Harry. The Duke of Sussex replies, "Currently, no. But I look forward to— I look forward to us being able to find peace."

Cooper, staying on the topic, then asks Harry how long has it been since he spoke to William. Vaguely, Harry responds, "a while."

Then, the conversation switches to his father, King Charles. Does Harry speak with Charles right now, Anderson asks. "We aren't— we haven't spoken for quite a while," Harry responds, trailing off. "No, not recently."

Prince Harry most recently saw his brother and father at the funeral of Queen Elizabeth in September. In his memoir, he writes how he found out the Queen died from the BBC.

Yet, Prince Harry remains hopeful that he can reconcile with his family. "The ball is very much in their court," he says, "But, you know, Meghan and I have continued to say that we will openly apologize for anything that we did wrong, but every time we ask that question, no one's telling us the specifics or anything. There needs to be a constructive conversation, one that can happen in private that doesn't get leaked." He also says he will never leak against his family."

Cooper responds, "I assume they would say, 'Well, how can we trust you, how do we know that you're not gonna reveal whatever conversations we have in an interview somewhere?'" Harry replies, "This all started with them briefing, daily, against my wife with lies to the point of where my wife and I had to run away from our country— my country."

Harry ends the interview with a hope for the future: "I look forward to having a relationship with my brother. I look forward to having a relationship with my father and other members of my family." Anderson asks, "You want that?" To which Harry responds, "That’s all I’ve ever asked for."

Spare will be released on Tuesday, January 10.
