Sussex Spokesperson Reacts to Prince Harry Not Being Allowed to Wear Military Attire to the Queen’s Funeral

A Sussex spokesperson has released a statement about the uniform sitch, saying the following:

The palace has yet to clarify why an exception is being made for Prince Andrew at the Queen’s vigil, but don’t expect to hear more from Harry on this matter now that his spokesperson has weighed in directly!

Prince Harry reportedly won’t be allowed to wear military uniform during events marking the Queen’s passing in London this week, despite an exception being made for disgraced royal Prince Andrew, who was stripped of his titles.

Per royal reporter and Finding Freedom author Omid Scobie’s initial reporting, “Only working members of the royal family will wear military uniform for ceremonial events honoring the Queen over next week: procession and service in Edinburgh today, coffin procession to Westminster Hall (and vigil that follows), state funeral, final committal in Windsor.”

Scobie also noted that “as a special mark of respect,” Andrew will be allowed to wear his uniform during the Queen’s final vigil at Westminster. He later updated his reporting with, “I understand that, unlike Prince Andrew, Prince Harry will NOT be allowed to wear uniform at the final vigil in Westminster Hall. No doubt a huge blow for the Duke of Sussex, who served for 10 years and this morning spoke of the Queen being his ‘commander in chief.’”

Buckingham Palace confirmed the dress code on Monday. As People put it, “Though Andrew, 62, and Harry, 37, will likely be seen in mourning dress (dark suits) for the scheduled events, a special exception has been granted for the Duke of York to wear a military uniform at the final vigil as a sign of respect for the late monarch.”

This is obviously a massive double standard, so hopefully the decision will be reconsidered in the coming days.

As a reminder, Andrew was stripped of his titles on January 13 amid a huge scandal involving convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, and the palace released a statement saying, “With the Queen’s approval and agreement, the Duke of York’s military affiliations and royal patronages have been returned to the Queen. The Duke of York will continue not to undertake any public duties and is defending this case as a private citizen.”
