Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's Oprah Interview to Air Hours After Queen Elizabeth's TV Special

Just one day after revealing that they were expecting their second child, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle surprised royal watchers last week with another unexpected announcement: that they would take part in a televised interview with Oprah Winfrey. The special TV event is set to air on CBS on March 7—the same day that Queen Elizabeth and other royal family members will appear in a TV special honoring Commonwealth Day.

According to People, the Commonwealth Day special—a televised event planned in lieu of the usual Commonwealth Day service at Westminster Abbey, a tentpole on the royal calendar that was canceled due to the pandemic—has been in the works since January, and the date was set three weeks ago.

The royals' special will be broadcast on the BBC, and feature appearances from Prince Charles, Prince William, Kate Middleton and Sophie, Countess of Wessex, in addition to a pre-taped address from Queen Elizabeth, which will be filmed in Windsor Castle, where she's been staying in recent months.

For their part, Harry and Meghan have reportedly already recorded their interview with Oprah. Longtime Oprah pal Gayle King offered an idea of what the conversation will be like. “I know she’s been working on the questions all weekend long,” King said. “I’m told that nothing is off-limits, nothing is off-limits. She can ask anything she wants,” she continued. “A lot of people wanted this interview. I’m so glad that we got it. I’m very curious.”
