Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's Dog's Name Is Finally Revealed

From Town & Country

Given how exposed members of the royal family are, it only makes sense that they'd want to keep some aspects of their lives completely private. In particular, both Prince William and Prince Harry are shy to share details about their pets publicly.

When the Cambridge family brought home Lupo, an English Cocker Spaniel, around early 2012, Kensington Palace reportedly declined to comment on the pup's name, calling it a "private matter."

Eventually, though, Kate Middleton let the name slip, sharing with students that her dog is called is Lupo. Per the Hollywood Reporter, royal officials later confirmed the moniker, and revealed that it didn't have a deeper meaning: "There is no significance in it apart from they liked the name.”

Similarly, when Prince Harry and Meghan adopted a black Lab in 2018, the couple kept their puppy's name a mystery. Shortly after they brought her home, there were several reports that the dog's name was "Oz." During a visit to Sussex that summer, Meghan confirmed the news that she and Harry had a new pup, but shared that people keep “getting her name wrong.”

Now, we finally know what Harry and Meghan (and baby Archie) call their pooch. In Finding Freedom, the buzzy new biography of the Sussexes, reporters Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand reveal that the dog's name is Pula.

"That summer the couple welcomed a new addition to the family, a black Labrador rescue they named after Botswana's currency: Pula," reads the text.

"The word means "rain" in the Bantu language of Setswana—and for very good reason. With its semi-arid terrains, the country considers rain valuable and a blessing. Just like the high-energy pooch."
