This morning, Meghan and Harry are celebrating Christmas over on Instagram. On the @SussexRoyal account, the royal couple posted a message of good cheer for their followers.

"Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas," reads the post, which was signed from Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Sussex (and features a very jaunty Santa hat atop their royal cypher, or joint monogram). The caption of the post features a series of festive emojis.

In recent weeks, the royal couple has stayed out of the spotlight; Meghan and Harry decided to take an extended break from their public duties, starting back in November. And while fans saw Queen Elizabeth, Prince William, Kate Middleton, and other senior royals earlier today (every year, they attend Christmas services at Sandringham's St. Mary Magdalene, greeting well-wishers on the walk over), Harry and Meghan weren't there.

Instead, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex opted to spend the holiday—their first with baby Archie—with Doria Ragland, Meghan's mother. "The Duke and Duchess are looking forward to extended family time towards the end of this month," the couple's spokesperson said, referencing their previously reported break from public duties. "Having spent the last two Christmases at Sandringham, their Royal Highnesses will spend the holidays this year, as a new family, with the Duchess' mother Doria Ragland."

It's not entirely unusual for royals to spend Christmas away from Sandringham; Prince William, Kate Middleton, and their children have celebrated with the Middletons in the past, too. Meghan and Harry's spokesperson assured that their decision had "the support of Her Majesty the Queen."
