Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Reportedly Filed a Trademark for “Sussex Royal”
Get ready for royal merch from Prince Harry and Meghan Markle! Well, sort of.
People reports that the couple has officially filed a trademark for Sussex Royal, The Foundation of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. While the initial paperwork was completed in June 2019, the filing wasn’t published until last week, detailing what the trademark application could be used for. As noted by People, the royals might use the trademark for a variety of items, including books and magazines, clothing, education, and “charitable fundraising.”
Back in June, the couple also broke away from the joint charity that they shared with Prince William and Kate Middleton; the trademark application was reportedly filed one day after announcing the split from The Royal Foundation.
The following month, the couple unveiled their new charity, Sussex Royal, which is incidentally the same name as their royal Instagram handle.
While it’s yet to be determined what exactly the future charity will focus on, the Duchess of Sussex has indicated that she’s passionate about “strong, community-based projects.” On Instagram, the Sussex Royal account often highlights other charities and organizations that are focusing on changing the world for the better. Over the summer, the Duke and Duchess asked their followers to share some of their biggest inspirations, in order to give them a bigger platform. “We want to know who YOUR Force for Change is,” they wrote at the time. “Each month, we change the accounts we follow to highlight various causes, people or organizations doing amazing things for their communities and the world at large.”
