From Harper's BAZAAR

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry seem to have a secret to their adorable, sweet, intimate and swoon-worthy photos: flights of stairs. Yes, stairs; just hear us out.

Harry and Meghan announced their engagement in late November of 2017, and followed up the exciting news with a proper (and official) series of engagement portraits, taken by BAZAAR favorite photographer, Alexi Lubomirski. Unlike William and Catherine's engagement portraits, which were taken at Buckingham Palace by Mario Testino in what felt like a royal obligation rather than an opportunity for the couple to take the most epic engagement photos to date, Meghan and Harry went all out. There was a couture gown by Ralph & Russo, a costume change to an approachable knit, a posed shot, a candid and an incredibly intimate and moving close-up.

By far the most memorable of the three shots Harry and Meghan shared publicly from their engagement photo-op, was the only photograph in color, featuring the couple on the stairs of one of Windsor Castle's (many) entrances. Meghan sits comfortably between Harry's legs, and the two could not appear more comfortable with one another, or in their seemingly challenging pose.

Other than many gasps of sheer delight, we didn't realize that this would become the secret sauce behind Harry and Meghan's photo-ops, until the couple exited St. George's Chapel for their first shots as husband and wife. They recessed down the aisle, and posed for the throngs of guests they'd invited to join them on the grounds of Windsor Castle, gave each other their first kiss as a married couple and made their way down (no surprise here) a grand staircase comprised of not one, but two flights of stairs–which proved perfect for posing.

And just when we thought that dreamscape of an engagement session couldn't be matched, the couple and their go-to photographer, Lubomirski, presented an official wedding portrait in black and white–with an almost identical position from their engagement session, taken from another angle on what could very well be the same flight of stairs.

You can just imagine the choreography post-the family portrait taking:

Harry: So, where shall we go next?

(Meghan glances adoringly into his eyes)

Alexi: How about those steps again?

Meghan: Yes! The stairs!

Harry: Brilliant, let's do it.

(Genius ensues)

The couple released three photographs of themselves, their bridal party and the Royal Family from May 19th, this time two in color and one black and white photograph. The black and white was an unprecedented portrait of the couple without their family (William and Catherine didn't release anything like it in 2011) and pictured Meghan, sitting comfortably between Harry's legs smiling brightly, while her husband laughs lovingly along with her, gazing down upon her. The perfect photo equation for the most adorable couple? This pose, those stairs, one epic couture dress.
