Prince Harry and Meghan have made the “personal decision” to keep plans surrounding the birth of their baby ‘private,” they said today in a statement. The couple have not disclosed information about where Meghan plans to give birth to their son or daughter and will not pose for a large-scale photocall in the same way William and Kate did after they had their three children.

Instead, Harry and Meghan will share their news “once they have had an opportunity to celebrate privately.” It is understood they will pose for a photograph at some stage following the birth but this will not be a mass media moment.

A statement, released by Buckingham Palace this morning, said: “The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are very grateful for the goodwill they have received from people throughout the United Kingdom and around the world as they prepare to welcome their baby. Their Royal Highnesses have taken a personal decision to keep the plans around the arrival of their baby private. The Duke and Duchess look forward to sharing the exciting news with everyone once they have had an opportunity to celebrate privately as a new family.”

The announcement follows much speculation as to what the plans for the baby’s birth are.

It has been reported that Meghan and Harry have not chosen the Lindo Wing in west London where Kate gave birth and that she may even have opted for a home birth at Frogmore Cottage; however, aides declined to comment on any of the speculation today and said only that the couple would share news of the birth when they are ready.

There was also no confirmation on whether or not this baby will have a royal title-something that will only happen if the Queen issues a Letters Patent-or how much maternity or paternity leave the couple plan to take.

With the Sussexes' new Instagram account set up just over a week ago, it has been speculated that the couple could release the first picture of their newborn via that account. Aides did not comment on any plans regarding the Instagram account today.
