Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Donate to GoFundMe for Children’s Hospital Los Angeles

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle recently donated $5,000 to a GoFundMe in honor of 9-year-old George Zajfen, who tragically passed away last week. T&C understands that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex made the gift in their children's names, Archie and Lilibet.

Kelly McKee Zajfen, the co-founder of Alliance of Moms, announced the death of her son George on Instagram this past Friday. "My sweet baby boy. My world is shattered into a million pieces. I have little ability to breathe. Walk. Function. Sit. Stand," McKee Zafjen wrote. "You were the light of my life. Your smile made the room so bright and your heart was the most perfect and sweetest. You left this Earth and left behind so many people who loved you. I don’t know how I’m able to go on. How I can function. How I can be the light and have joy ever again but I’m going to try. Try hard for your beautiful twin sister."

The Sussexes donated to the GoFundMe, which was organized by the Zafjen's family friend Kate Jefferson. She decided to organize the fundraiser to help with "funeral arrangements and anything else the Zajfen family may need while transitioning from this tragedy." Markle's ex-husband, Trevor Engelson, and his wife, Tracey, also donated to the GoFundMe.

However, the GoFundMe was not made at the request of the Zajfen family; since the page got more attention, Jefferson shared that she will be sending the nearly $60,000 the GoFundMe raised to Children’s Hospital Los Angeles to help children in need—in honor of George's memory and in support of George's twin sister Lily.

When the twins were two years old, Lily was diagnosed with a third-degree heart block, and received a pacemaker. "I would never say that this has been an easy journey. And as a parent of a child with a pacemaker and heart condition, I think it’s impossible not to think of the future and what that will look like for her," Zafjen wrote in a blog about Lily's condition, calling her daughter "Super Lily," and sharing she was treated at the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.

Since, Zafjen has become a heart ambassador for the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, and Instagrams under the handle @_heartmom_.

The GoFundMe now directs to a page for the Children's Hospital, with Zafjen writing, "Georgie - with the passing of our sweet boy we want to continue his loving heart by donating to Children's Hospital LA in support of his Twin sister and all the incredible work they do."

George's cause of death has not been revealed publicly. George is survived by his parents, Kelly and Julian, and his twin sister, Lily.
