Prince Harry Married Meghan Markle 'Because She's Like Diana'
Princess Diana's former butler, Paul Burrell, thinks Prince Harry chose to marry Meghan Markle because she's similar to his mom, Princess Diana.
Paul credits Meghan and Diana's similarities to their strong-willed natures.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepped back from their senior royal duties at the beginning of the year because they want to be independent, but it really goes deeper than that. Months before Meghan and Harry stepped back, Harry penned a letter to Daily Mail and Mail on Sunday's publishers, saying that he wanted the bullying of Meghan to stop because he didn't want her to end up like his mom, Princess Diana. But now, we're learning the similarities between Meghan and Diana go beyond extreme scrutiny by the British press.
According to Diana's former butler, Paul Burrell, Harry might have fallen for Meghan in the first place because her personality is similar to Diana's. "Harry went for and married Meghan because she's like Diana," he reportedly said in an interview with Closer magazine. "Both women who would always stand up for what they believe in and wouldn't be pushovers."
Still, Paul doesn't think that means they'd be besties. "I think, possibly, they would have clashed," he continued. "I imagine it would have been two strong, independent women with different views on things—it would have been a battle between Meghan's way and Diana's way."
Perhaps one of the major differences between Meghan and Diana is that Meghan had a better grasp on the media going into a royal marriage compared to Diana, Paul theorized, possibly because Meghan was in the spotlight already.
"I think the main difference between them is that Meghan has a game plan, whereas Diana was young and naïve," Paul added. "Diana did the book with Andrew Morton and courted the press over the years because she didn't have a voice. And her strong-mindedness meant she cared and she felt the people of the country had a right to know what had gone on behind closed doors."
Guess the only logical thing to do now is analyze Meghan and Diana's similarities through all the times Meghan mirrored Diana's style. You know, for research purposes.
