Prince Harry Made a Surprise Appearance Ahead of Princess Diana Statue Unveiling

Prince Harry made a surprise appearance this week to honor recipients of the Diana Award, given to those who are carrying on Princess Diana's legacy.

According to People, the Duke of Sussex made a video address for a group of young people who have been honored with the award for their humanitarian work.

"I'm truly honored to be celebrating your work, your commitment to change making and the vital role that you've taken on representing a new generation of humanitarianism," he said.

Prince Harry made the address ahead of an event this week in which he will join his brother Prince William to unveil a statue dedicated to Princess Diana on what would have been her 60th birthday.

"Later this week, my brother and I are recognizing what would have been our mum's 60th birthday, and she would be so proud of you all for living authentic life with purpose and with compassion for others," he said. "Our mum believed that young people have the power to change the world. She believed in your strength because she saw it day in and day out and in the faces of young people exactly like you, she witnessed a boundless enthusiasm and passion."

Though Meghan Markle is not set to join him for the unveiling this week, Prince Harry made special mention of her during his speech.

"Meg and I fundamentally believe that our world is at the cusp of change, real change for the good of all."

This year, 300 young people were honored with the Diana Award for their contributions to community action and humanitarian service.

On Thursday, Prince Harry and Prince William will reunite for the first time since Prince Philip's funeral in April to unveil Princess Diana's statue at Kensington Palace's Sunken Garden.
