Last week, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle kicked off their tour of the Oceania region with an announcement: The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are expecting their first child next spring.

"Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are very pleased to announce that The Duchess of Sussex is expecting a baby in the Spring of 2019," read a tweet from Kensington Palace.

In the hours following the happy news, additional details were made public. Notably, Meghan is feeling well and is at least 12 weeks along, and both the royals and Meghan's mother Doria and delighted. But there was no mention of the baby's sex.

According to Babycenter, a popular resource for parents-to-be, "Most pregnant women find out their baby's sex (if they choose to know) during their mid-pregnancy ultrasound, usually between 16 and 20 weeks."

So Meghan and Harry likely still have a few weeks to go-that is, if they're going to find out at all. Harry's brother Prince William, and his wife, the Duchess of Cambridge, were famously quiet about the genders of all three of their children until Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and little Prince Louis each made their public debuts on the steps of the Lindo Wing.

But while in Melbourne this week, Harry hinted that he's hoping for a girl.

As he walked down the street, a woman called out to Harry "I hope it's a girl!" and he quickly responded "so do I."

It's not the first time he's mentioned his future child's gender. At a reception at Admiralty House in Sydney, Prince Harry made his first public comments about Meghan's pregnancy.

He thanked the crowd for the "warm welcome" and then continued, "We also genuinely couldn’t think of a better place to announce the, er, upcoming baby," before adding, "be it a boy or a girl."
