Prince Harry was just asked about recent racist remarks made by Lady Susan Hussey, and defended her while also speaking about the importance of her taking accountability—saying "Meghan and I love Susan Hussey" and "she never meant any harm."

As a reminder, Lady Susan (who is Prince William's godmother) resigned from her honorary position as one of King Charles’s advisors due to aggressively and repeatedly asking Sistah Space director Ngozi Fulani where she “really came from” during Queen Camilla’s Violence Against Women and Girls reception.

Prince Harry's comments about Lady Susan came as he was talking to ITV's Tom Bradby about how the royals seemingly never take accountability. "It's no longer a case of me asking for accountability, but at this point the world is asking for accountability," he said. "And the world is asking for some form of comment from the monarchy. But the silence is—is—is deafening. To put it mildly. So, I think we've gone from this being like, you know, just my personal whatever you wanna call it to way, way, way bigger than us."

Harry then explained that the royals haven't said a "single thing" in support of Meghan Markle, but "willing to defend themselves regularly" before bringing up Lady Susan Hussey.

"And, you know, all we've ever asked for in the last—certainly the last few—few years is some accountability," he said. "And I'm very happy for Ngozi Fulani to be invited into the Palace to sit down with Lady Susan Hussey um, and to reconcile, because Meghan and I love Susan Hussey. She thinks she's great. And I also know that what she meant—she never meant any harm at all but the response from the British press, and from people online because of the stories that they wrote was horrendous. Was absolutely horrendous the response."

Buckingham Palace released a statement after Lady Susan Hussey's comments saying, “We take this incident extremely seriously and have investigated immediately to establish the full facts. In this instance, unacceptable and deeply regrettable comments have been made. We have reached out to Ngozi Fulani on this matter, and we are inviting her to discuss all elements of her experience in person if she wishes. In the meantime, the individual concerned would like to express her profound apologies for the hurt caused and has stepped aside from her honorary role with immediate effect.”

A spokesperson for Prince William and Kate Middleton also gave a statement, saying, “I want to address the story relating to a guest attending a reception at Buckingham Palace last night. This is a matter for Buckingham Palace, but as the Prince of Wales spokesperson, I appreciate you’re all here and understand you’ll want to ask about it. So let me address it head on. I was really disappointed to hear about the guests’ experience at Buckingham Palace last night. Obviously, I wasn’t there, but racism has no place in our society. The comments were unacceptable, and it is right that the individual has stepped aside with immediate effect.”
