Prince Harry Calls Out John Travolta for ‘Dining Out’ on Princess Diana Dance Memory

A dance with Princess Diana is tough to forget.

While onstage at the Living Legends of Aviation’s 21st annual awards show on Friday, Jan. 19, John Travolta, 69, recalled one such dance he had with the late Princess of Wales nearly four decades ago.

Back in 1985, Travolta and Diana attended a White House State Dinner hosted by former President Ronald Reagan and former first lady Nancy Reagan. In a photo later distributed by the White House, Travolta and Diana danced in the Entrance Hall. The Reagans also danced behind them.

Travolta and Diana danced along to music from Saturday Night Fever, the 1977 film starring Travolta, at the time the photo was taken, according to the White House Historical Association.

The Grease actor mentioned the dance during Friday’s event before he presented Diana’s youngest son, Prince Harry, with a Living Legend of Aviation award, according to Hello! magazine.

After receiving the award, the Duke of Sussex took the stage to deliver some remarks, as shown in a video shared on Instagram by a fan account for Harry’s wife, Meghan Markle. Harry started by joking about the dance that “Captain John" shared with his mother.

"I was 1 year old when you danced with my mom, as you’ve told everybody here, and continue to dine out on that, probably every single night,” Harry, 39, teased. "But look at us now. It’s great. So if we’re not going to dance together, we’ll fly together.”

As the event’s Official Ambassador of Aviation, Travolta had voiced support for Harry to receive an award at Friday’s event, according to the Daily Mirror. In an Instagram post earlier this month announcing Harry as one of this year’s awards recipients, the Living Legends of Aviation highlighted his work as a “humanitarian, military veteran, mental wellness advocate, and environmentalist.”
