Prince George Has Some Thoughts About Mom Kate Middleton’s Garden

While exploring Kate Middleton’s garden at the 2019 RHS Chelsea Flower Show, Prince William asked Prince George his opinion.

Today, Kate Middleton’s “Back to Nature” garden at the 2019 RHS Chelsea Flower Show opens to the public. But on Sunday, it got its first reviewers—Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.

They splashed their feet in a babbling brook. They played on a rope swing. They collected sticks. They sat around a campfire. They, to sum it up, tested the place out. And, since the garden is meant for little ones—“I really hope that this woodland that we have created really inspires families, kids, and communities to get outside, enjoy nature and the outdoors, and spend quality time together,” the duchess told the BBC—the Cambridge kids’ opinions were integral.

And, luckily for royal watchers, their reviews were caught on camera.

“How many marks out of 10 would you give it—with 10 being the highest?” Prince William asked George.

“Twenty!” the British prince exclaimed.

“Twenty out of 10? That’s pretty good. I think Mummy’s done well,” Prince William said.

Princess Charlotte also had some thoughts: “Ooh la la!” she said while examining her surroundings—which also included a waterfall, stepping stones, and a hollow log.

Photographer Matt Porteous captured these playful moments in a series of portraits, which Kensington Palace published on Sunday.

George, Charlotte, and Louis helped their mother create her garden. Over the past few months, they’ve collected leaves, moss, and twigs from their country home of Anmer Hall to adorn the green space. The hazel sticks they found were used to make its den. Their participation was all part of mother Kate Middleton’s message: “It is really engaging kids to understand nature and care for it, so they can go on to protect it,” she said.

Plus, how fun is it to see children enjoying the dynamic space they had a hand in creating?
