Last year, Kate Middleton organized a carol service at Westminster Abbey for the first time. And the event has come back for a second year running, this time with Prince George and Princess Charlotte joining their parents.

Together at Christmas, which is hosted by the Princess of Wales, saw 1,800 people invited to Westminster Abbey in recognition of their efforts to help and care for others in their communities. Guest nominations have been drawn from across the UK as well as from over 100 charities associated with the royal family, including some of the patronages of Queen Elizabeth II.

“The carol service is dedicated to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, and to all those who sadly no longer with us,” a message in the program said. “Her Late Majesty’s strongly held values of duty, compassion and faith have guided the creation of this service.”

William, Kate, George and Charlotte were joined at the event by other family members including the King and Queen Consort, Zara and Mike Tindall as well as Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie and their husbands. The Wales family arrived wearing co-ordinated outfits in navy blue and maroon and entered the Abbey via the Great West Door which had been decorated with Christmas trees from Windsor Great Park donated by the King.

“Spearheaded by The Princess of Wales, and supported by The Royal Foundation, the service will recognise the selfless efforts of individuals, families and communities across the UK, and celebrate and showcase the joy that human connection and togetherness can bring,” Kensington Palace said in a statement.

“Combining traditional and modern elements to encompass people of all faiths and none, the service will see the world-renowned Westminster Abbey choir perform some of the nation’s most beloved carols, including ‘O Come, All Ye Faithful’, which was selected through a public poll last week.”

Guest performances were set to include Craig David, Alexis Ffrench and Samantha Barks, and a special duet from Alfie Boe and Melanie C. Prince William was set to give a reading along with Dame Kristin Scott Thomas and Hugh Bonneville. It will be televised on Christmas Eve.
