Is This Prince George’s Adorable Nickname?
With a full name of George Alexander Louis of Cambridge, it was perhaps inevitable that 5-year-old Prince George would have a nickname. After all, his father, Prince William, was often called “Wills” by his friends (and the press), and Prince Harry is technically Prince Henry. But George’s exact moniker was unclear. Earlier this year, The Sun reported the little prince himself told a woman in a park his name was “Archie”—which is, yes, adorable, but also confusing. Was George just being mischievous? Does he use a different name with strangers to blend in? (It’s not uncommon—William reportedly went by “Steven” while studying at the University of St. Andrews.) There were theories aplenty.
Now, however, a new, more straightforward contender has arrived: P.G.
According to Vanity Fair, the little royal’s schoolmates at Thomas’s Battersea call him by these initials, short for Prince George. “George is really happy at school, [and] his nickname is P.G.,” says a parent at the school. “He’s very popular and has lots of friends, and there’s very little fuss made about who he is.” Also according to the outlet, George (excuse us, P.G.) enjoys plenty of playdates and parties with his classmates.
Princess Charlotte will likely join her older brother at Thomas’s Battersea in September. Will she, too, go by a shortened playground name? It seems so—she is reportedly sometimes called “Lottie,” which is a common abbreviation of Charlotte, especially in the United Kingdom.
No word yet on a nickname for Prince Louis—who, next week, will turn 1. But, if he does follow the lead of George, P.L. has a nice ring to it.
