Prince Charles and Camilla's Christmas Card Pays Tribute to this Unusual Year
The British royals are nothing if not sticklers for tradition, and every December they make a point to send out holiday cards to friends, family, world leaders, and members of the royal household. Queen Elizabeth alone reportedly mails out 750 festive notes each year. Fortunately, for those of us not on the mailing list, they often share the images from these letters on social media as well.
Over the years, Prince Charles and Camilla have started to send out their own Christmastime greetings, and today Clarence House revealed the image of their 2021 card, a candid photo of the couple taken by Samir Hussein at Royal Ascot this summer (above). The picture appears to pay tribute to this unusual year, as both Charles and Camilla are masked.
The royal couple has been consistent in their efforts to encourage safe practices during the pandemic, and earlier this week, they released a message urging those in the UK to get vaccinated:
“It is the most enormous tribute to the remarkable ingenuity and determination of everyone involved that, one year after the first COVID-19 vaccination, more than a hundred million doses have now been delivered,” Charle and Camilla said in a message released on December 8.
“We can only offer our most heartfelt thanks and congratulations to all the scientists, volunteers and workers across the NHS who have helped bring about this extraordinary achievement. And to all those who have not yet had the vaccine – or are hesitating before getting a booster – we can only urge you to look at the evidence in our intensive care wards and listen to those who work there. People who are unvaccinated are at least 10 times more likely to be hospitalised or die than those who have had two vaccine doses. That is why we urge everyone to get vaccinated and to take up the booster, as we have done ourselves.”
Charles and Camilla's card was released in tandem with the Cambridge's holiday greeting, which includes a photo of Will, Kate, and their three children—George, Charlotte, and Louis—taken while they were all on holiday in Jordan earlier this year.

Thus far, the Sussexes have yet to release a holiday card, but we'll be sure to post should they share a new image of their family of four.
