From Town & Country

Over the past few weeks, Prince Andrew's relationship with Jeffrey Epstein has been called into question by press on both sides of the pond. Earlier this summer Epstein was arrested on two sex trafficking-related charges. He pleaded not guilty, was denied bail, and was later found dead in his Manhattan jail cell, a death which was ruled a suicide.

Epstein and the Duke of York are known to have been friends, with Andrew even visiting Epstein in New York City in 2010. Notably, a video of Prince Andrew inside Epstein's home was published by the Daily Mail over the weekend. In the footage, the Duke of York can be seen waving to a woman from the door.

Buckingham Palace has categorically denied that Prince Andrew was ever sexually inappropriate with a minor, and a statement released over the weekend said that Andrew "appalled" by his former associate's alleged crimes.

Read that statement in full here:

“The Duke of York has been appalled by the recent reports of Jeffrey Epstein’s alleged crimes. His Royal Highness deplores the exploitation of any human being and the suggestion he would condone, participate in or encourage any such behaviour is abhorrent.”

Epstein's death makes it difficult for the criminal case against him to proceed, but according to sources in the Daily Express, Prince Andrew has reportedly said that he would speak with police about Epstein, but he has yet to be asked. According to that paper:

The Duke of York, who has categorically denied acting improperly with any young women he met through Epstein, does not consider himself above the law. And he would be willing to provide a witness statement or undergo questioning to help the authorities in either Britain or the United States. However, sources have suggested he has never been asked and it is not clear how such an investigation will now proceed after Epstein, 66, a billionaire convicted sex offender, was found hanged in a New York prison cell on August 10.
