Sarah Ferguson Says Queen Elizabeth's Corgis Are "Thriving"

The fate of Queen Elizabeth's beloved corgis was revealed shortly after her death: her two dogs will be cared for by Prince Andrew, and his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York.
On the one year anniversary of the Queen's passing, Ferguson sharde an update about the corgis on Instagram. "As we mourn a year on, we also celebrate the wonderful times we shared with Her Late Majesty the Queen," she wrote. "She entrusted me with the care of her corgis Sandy and Muick and I am delighted to say they are thriving."
During the Covid-19 lockdown, Prince Andrew gifted his mother Queen Elizabeth two dogs, Muick, a corgi, and Fergus, a dorgi. When Fergus died last May, he was replaced with another corgi, Sandy.
Sandy and Muick were a "godsend" to the Queen during the pandemic, according to Angela Kelly, Queen Elizabeth's trusted confidant. "I was worried they would get under The Queen's feet, but they have turned out to be a godsend. They are beautiful and great fun and The Queen often takes long walks with them in Home Park," Kelly wrote.
The Queen's lifelong love for corgis has been well-documented; she has reportedly said has said "my corgis are family." It makes sense, then, that the dogs will be staying in the family.
Despite being divorced since 1997, the Duke and Duchess of York still live together at Royal Lodge in Windsor. "The Duchess bonded with Her Majesty over dog walking and riding horses and even after her divorce, she would continue her great friendship with Her Majesty, by walking the dogs in Frogmore and chatting," a source close to Prince Andrew told The Telegraph.
Shortle after the Queen's death last year, Ferguson shared a tribute to her late mother-in-law on Instagram. "I am heartbroken by the passing of Her Majesty the Queen," she wrote. "She leaves behind an extraordinary legacy: the most fantastic example of duty and service and steadfastness, and a constant steadying presence as our head of state for more than 70 years. She has given her whole life selflessly to the people of the UK and the Commonwealth.
She concluded, "To me, she was the most incredible mother-in-law and friend. I will always be grateful to her for the generosity she showed me in remaining close to me even after my divorce. I will miss her more than words can express."
Prince Andrew traveled to Balmoral to mourn his mother with the rest of the royal family. He was pictured comforting his daughters Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie as they viewed floral tributes left outside the Scottish castle.
