Mr & Mrs Smith co-creator just gave an update on potential season 2

While the show's title might make you think of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, there's a new Mr and Mrs Smith in town, in the shape of John (Donald Glover) and Jane (Maya Erskine.) The pair star in Prime Video's reimagining of the original film, as two spies who are in an arranged marriage, as part of their secret missions. But will there be a season two of the new Mr and Mrs Smith?
What is Mr and Mrs Smith about?
As mentioned, the brand new eight-part series (which was released in February 2024), follows a couple who are recruited by a spy agency to work together, and partake in a fake marriage as part of their missions.
It's loosely inspired by the film (but differs in that the original couple didn't realise each other were also spies), with the official synopsis reading, "Meet the Smiths: two lonely strangers, John and Jane, who have given up their lives and identities to be thrown together as partners – both in espionage and in marriage.
Has there been any mention of a second season of Mr and Mrs Smith?
Mr & Mrs Smith co-creator Francesca Sloane has just teased us with a potential update on another season of the show.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly on 2nd February 2024, Sloane said she was keen for the possibility of another season, explaining there's so much more they could do with the story and concept.
"I think that there's definitely a lot more story to tell here,” she explained. “I think that we definitely feel like this is a fully satisfied story if it were to just live on its own. But it definitely has more legs to keep going, that's for sure."
So far, Prime Video haven't suggested there will be a season two of the show - which is probably not that surprising, considering season one only came out in full on the 2nd February.
But that said, there's definitely scope for more episodes - particularly as season one ended on a major cliffhanger. *Spoilers ahead for the finale of Mr and Mrs Smith season one!*
After failing three missions in a row, another couple are sent to their house by the agency to assassinate them. After John Smith is hit by a bullet, he begins to lose consciousness, and Jane is left trying to kill the assassins solo. When the episode ends she has just one bullet left - does she succeed? Is John alive? Who kills who?
Who might make up the Mr and Mrs Smith season 2 cast?
Well, depending on what happens with that cliffhanger, it's hard to know for sure. But we can assume the lead two will be back, as well as some of the more general supporting cast and crew:
Donald Glover as John Smith
Maya Erskine as Jane Smith
Paul Dano as the neighbour
Beverly Glover as John's mum (yep, his actual real life mum!)
Depending on what the storyline for season two is, there's likely to be some new characters, too.
