Drew Carey

Drew Carey is getting candid about his weight loss transformation.

The host of The Price Is Right recently opened up about losing 80 lbs. back in 2010, something he had to do if he wanted to make the most out of his life.

Carey, 65, revealed in a recent interview with PEOPLE that it was a wake-up call from his doctor that prompted him to start taking his health more seriously, after he was told his life would be "shorter" if he didn't make a change.

"If you don’t do something, your life's going to be shorter, and you’ll have these bad things to look forward to," the TV personality recalled hearing from his doctor.

Carey admitted that he wasn't living the healthiest lifestyle before his weight loss transformation, as he would frequently go to a diner after taping The Price Is Right during his first year on the show, where he would eat, "a plate of pasta, a cupcake and iced tea with a bunch of lemons."

"Then I’d go home, have Doritos and several Pepsis, and take an Ambien to go to sleep. It was miserable to live like that," he added.

Eventually for Carey, who had been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, his doctor's warning pushed him to switch up his habits, and he began cutting carbs and working out for 45 minutes several times a week

Not only did he shed a significant amount of weight, but he said he reversed his type 2 diabetes by managing his blood sugars.

"It's better being like this and having my blood sugar at these levels, and I love myself enough now to want that for myself and desire that for myself," Carey told the publication, calling it a "freeing" experience to take control of one's health.

Plus, Carey said he likes the "energy" and "lucidity" of his thoughts, which we know he needs in order to keep entertaining fans as the host of the popular game show.

The Price Is Right airs weekdays on CBS and ParamountPlus.
