Milan Fashion Week spring ’20 street style was anything but basic. As fashion’s elite descended upon Italy’s fashion capital, they suited up in shoes that packed a powerful pop — courtesy of bold colors, prints and embellishments.

Pumps from brands like Jacquemus and Attico featured extra details that made them stand out like ornaments.

Boots were also meant to make a statement. Guests chose colors like metallic blue, canary yellow and cardinal red that were hard to miss on the gray city streets.

Leathers embossed with logos or croc prints also stood out, as did block-heeled Maison Margiela boots featuring a swirly, rainbow pattern.

Of course, fashion week wouldn’t be complete without the arguably “It” shoe of the season: Bottega Veneta’s mesh pumps.

In addition to the sold-out silhouette, which includes a jewelry-like chain embellishment and a trendy square toe, Bottega’s knotted sandals were also present on the streets of Milan.

Another favorite among the sartorially savvy, the sandals have a woven upper, a stiletto heel and a ’90s-inspired square toe. While some MFW attendees may have chosen Bottega while en route to the label’s runway show, the brand was trending just as much on the streets of New York and London.

In place of the dad shoe was fashion’s newest flat shoe obsession: the Teva-like sandal. Styles from Prada and Midnight 00 created their own versions of the ultra-comfy silhouette.

Trump executive order on anti-Semitism stirs confusion

The Red Heifer: A speech pathologist in Texas was asked to sign a contract addendum affirming that she would not boycott Israel during the term of her contract with the state. She refused. Her contract was not renewed. She had been with the school district for nine years and is now suing over violations of her freedom of speech. At the University of Michigan, controversy arose after a professor declined to write a reference letter for a student intending to study abroad in Israel. He cited his political beliefs and practice of BDS as his reason. The university disciplined him, revoking his annual raise and cancelling his planned sabbatical. The American Association of University Professors, an organization which explicitly does not endorse BDS on the grounds that academic boycotts violate the principles of academic freedom, criticized the university’s response. Civil rights activist Angela Davis was slated to receive an award from the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute, until it was withdrawn after BCRI received complaintsabout Davis’s outspoken support for BDS.
