A Pretty Little Liars alum has been cast in the Riverdale spinoff series

Lucy Hale has officially joined the Archie Comics universe. The Pretty Little Liars alum has been cast in the titular role of the Riverdale spinoff series, Katy Keene. Katy Keene, a musical dramedy, will follow characters from Archie Comics and “[chronicle] the origins and struggles of four aspiring artists trying to make it on Broadway, on the runway and in the recording studio,” according to the Hollywood Reporter. Hailed as “America’s Queen of Pin-Ups and Fashions,” Katy Keene is described as a “bold, big-hearted and independent” 20-something-year-old with dreams of becoming a fashion designer.

Hale took to Instagram on March 11th to confirm the news, writing, “Well I’m slightly freaking out ! Thank you @archiecomics / @writerras / @thecw / @warnerbrostv / @thatthingofwhen for trusting me to be your KATY KEENE. my heart is bursting.”

The Truth or Dare star will be joined by Riverdale’s Ashleigh Murray (who will reprise her role as Josie McCoy), Camille Hyde, Lucien Laviscount, Jonny Beauchamp, and Julia Chan. Riverdale show-runners Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and Michael Grassi are at the helm of the spinoff series. Katy Keene marks Hale’s return to the network following the cancellation of her comedy series, Life Sentence, in 2018.

A premiere date for Katy Keene has not yet been announced.
