Fija is a trained fashion stylist and clothing coach, and founded the business Fier je style. On her website she says she’s always loved color, interiors, and clothing, and explains that “fier” stands for “full of self-confidence” and “proud.”

The home she’s owned for three-and-a-half years with her partner, Jasper (which they also share with three daughters, Livia, Elle, and Jolie), is a large, four-bedroom home in Schoonhoven, The Netherlands. Fija writes on her website that “[v]intage finds and sustainable clothing items make my heart jump,” and while she was speaking about fashion in that description, the sentiment could certainly apply to the colorful, Scandinavian-style home she’s created.

One of the biggest challenges for Fija when it came to designing this house is the fact that it was a new build, and therefore a little lacking in character.

“I love old details and the coziness of an old house,” she admits, explaining that making this space feel cozy and not like every other new-build home was a priority.

One of their solutions for adding coziness to the home was to “add a room divider to break the long wall in the living room and add wooden paneling in the kitchen,” she writes. The kind of decor she added into the space also played a huge role in making the home cozy, as well.

“I love vintage combined with new things; I love that mix,” she describes about her home’s style. “I love flowers and flower prints, so you see them in my whole house. I love wallpaper; it makes a room so cozy.” And of course, there are also all the spring-like, pastel colors she’s added into every room, which she chronicles on her Instagram account.
