Pret A Manger Launching New Flat-Fee Coffee Subscription Service in U.S.

Pret A Manger, the ubiquitous U.K.-based sandwich and coffee chain, will be rolling out its monthly coffee subscription service in the United States and France this year, the company announced on Thursday.

The service, rebranded as "Club Pret" back in April, was first launched in its British locations in September 2020 to help stay afloat during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, after it proved to be such a success, Pret is expanding the business model to its other international markets. According to Reuters, the service will hit the U.S. next month, where it currently operates 58 stores, followed by France in November, and all of its other markets in 2024.

Subscribers to the current program can get up to five barista-prepared drinks per day, as well as a 10 percent discount on all food, snacks, and any additional drinks. On Sept. 5, that discount will increase to 20 percent.

A company spokesperson said the price of the subscription service had not yet been confirmed for the U.S. and France programs. Though, the UK's Club Pret currently costs 30 pounds, or $38, per month, with the first month offered at a half-price discount.

The rebranded subscription service has already seen 17.8 million redemptions in its first three months, up 31 percent year-on-year.

Pret, which is owned by investment firm JAB and founder Sinclair Beecham, operates over 600 locations in 15 countries, with around three-quarters of its stores located in London. After reporting a 20 percent increase in first-half sales, the company is now planning to more than double the size of its business by 2026.

So, if there's not a Pret A Manger near you to take advantage of the Club Pret service, that very well may change before long.
