Presenting 10 Songs on Queen Elizabeth's Perfectly Delightful Playlist

From House Beautiful

Given her incredibly formal life, it can be really difficult to imagine Queen Elizabeth or any other royal cutting loose. Is she really finding new bands on Spotify, or trying to decipher Rihanna lyrics on the radio? Probably not. She is a human, though, which means that she has to enjoy music from time to time.

In anticipation of its upcoming documentary, Our Queen: 90 Musical Years, the BBC released a list of her top ten favorite pieces of music. As she's been alive for nearly a century of popular music, the titles range from classical hymns to patriotic tunes to big old gaudy showtunes from American musicals.

There's "Oklahoma" by Howard Keel, the title song from the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical, and "Anything You Can Do" from Annie Get Your Gun, which most Americans can sing from memory due to its popularity in sing-songy commercials.

Another pick is "Cheek to Cheek" by Fred Astaire, which was released in 1935 when the Queen was just 9 years old. Just try to hear this song ever again without imagining QEII serenading Prince Phillip as they waltz around Buckingham Palace in their sweats.

"The Queen is a fantastic dancer. She's got great rhythm," Lady Elizabeth Anson, the Queen's cousin, told the BBC. Noted.
